Preparing for a Diablo 4 season is usually straightforward when you create a completely new character. Rebirth is different because you are deliberately resetting an existing character. That makes your inventory management especially important. Before starting the process, take a few minutes to identify which D4 items are worth preserving and which can be salvaged. A careful cleanup can make the transition much smoother.
The biggest mistake is assuming that D4 items carried by the character will automatically be protected. Rebirth resets the character to Level 1 on the Seasonal Realm, while selected identity and cosmetic information remains intact. Your character name, class, appearance, played hours, and cosmetic unlocks survive, but items left equipped or in the personal inventory can be permanently lost when the reset is confirmed.
Start With Your Equipment Slots
The first step should always be removing your equipment.
Take off every weapon, armor piece, ring, amulet, talisman, and any other currently equipped item. Do not leave something equipped simply because you believe it is obsolete. If there is even a small chance that you may want it later, move it into the Eternal Stash.
This is particularly useful for rare items with strong rolls. You may eventually decide that a particular piece is no longer relevant, but making that decision after the seasonal reset is safer than accidentally deleting it during Rebirth.
Once all equipment slots are empty, move on to the inventory itself.
Empty Every Inventory Tab
Go through each inventory tab and move anything you want to preserve into the Eternal Stash.
Do not limit this check to legendary equipment. Look for gems, runes, keys, elixirs, boss materials, and other consumables. A character that has been used for several weeks can accumulate a surprising amount of useful miscellaneous material.
It is worth doing a second pass after the first cleanup. The first pass can focus on equipment, while the second focuses entirely on consumables and special resources. This simple habit reduces the chance of leaving something valuable behind.
Stash Space Matters
A full stash can become a problem when you are preparing for Rebirth.
If you already have multiple Eternal characters with crowded storage, clear some space before moving your old equipment. Remove duplicate items and equipment you are certain you will never use again.
Salvaging is generally a useful way to deal with unwanted gear because the resulting crafting materials can be useful later. Selling has its place when you specifically need gold, but there is little reason to keep large quantities of worthless equipment just because your stash happens to have room.
The important thing is that the items you actually care about have somewhere safe to go.
What Happens to Eternal Gold?
Rebirth does not turn your existing Eternal wealth into a seasonal starting balance.
Your Eternal gold and crafting materials remain on the Eternal side of the game. The reborn character enters the Seasonal Realm and progresses through its separate economy. Therefore, a huge Eternal stockpile will not suddenly become a pile of spending money for your new Level 1 character.
This is one reason I would avoid rushing to spend everything before Rebirth. Your old resources can remain useful when you return to Eternal characters.
Avoid Last-Minute Upgrades
It can be tempting to spend all your remaining gold on masterworking or repeated stat rerolls just before a new season begins. Usually, there is no need to do that.
Seasonal updates can change class balance, item values, and popular builds. A piece of equipment that looks excellent before the update may become less attractive after players discover new combinations.
Season 15's new systems, including Soul Splinters, are another reason to keep some resources available instead of committing everything to an older setup. Once the new mechanics settle, you will have a better idea of where your time and resources are best spent.
Give Obols Some Thought
Murmuring Obols are another currency worth reviewing before you reset.
Your maximum Obol capacity is influenced by account progression, including Renown. Making sure your account has reached the appropriate progression can therefore help you enter the season in a better position.
Still, do not expect an Eternal Obol balance to function as a direct transfer into the new Seasonal economy. The point of preparing beforehand is to optimize your account's overall progression rather than trying to carry every currency across the reset.
Keep an Eye on Seasonal Storage
Seasonal storage also needs attention after the season ends.
When seasonal characters return to Eternal, their stash items are placed into a Withdrawal-Only stash. Those items are temporary until you manually move the ones you want to keep.
This system can be easy to forget when you are already thinking about the next season. Make it part of your end-of-season routine instead. Check the temporary stash, recover anything important, and discard what you no longer need.
A More Relaxed Seasonal Start
Rebirth works best when you treat it as a planned reset rather than a button you press immediately after deciding to play the new season. Empty your equipment slots, clear every inventory tab, create enough stash space, and separate the resources you want to preserve from the items you are comfortable abandoning.

Your Eternal wealth can stay where it is, while your reborn character focuses on building a new seasonal economy from Level 1. If you want to save money for the early seasonal grind, it is also worth comparing your needs carefully before considering cheap Diablo 4 Items, especially once the new balance changes and seasonal mechanics become clearer.
